Through our analysis and continued communication with the parents and teachers of our participants, we have been able to track the positive changes in our students’ behaviors and grades.
LIFT As We Climb Bootcamp to Success mentee's ("Liftees") attended an exclusive movie premier of Black Panther at the invitation of the film's costar, Newark native, Michael B. Jordan. The boys said they felt like "superstars" when walking the carpet, and even got a feature on News 12 New Jersey!
February 2018 we hosted our inaugural L.I.F.T. Every Voice Black History Celebration. This event was organized and executed by our Liftees. They were able to contact local talent such as Springs of Joy Dance Ensemble, Fashion Designer Zaki Michael, Corey Fulmore, Shaquan Welsh, and Young Queens D.I.A.M.O.N.D.S. Inc, to participate. The Liftees also learned and performed powerful historical poems such as “I, Too Sing America” by Langston Hughes. Proceeds from the event helped fund our 2018 Boot Camp to Success.
Our 2018 Boot Camp To Success Male Mentoring Program got off to an amazing start and it kept on getting better. Our "liftees" (mentees) were taught lessons on “Self-Esteem of a Winner”, How to Bring The Leader Out of You”, and Speaking to Encourage Yourself and Others”.
In addition our mentoring sessions, we made sure to take out some time for fun. Some of our 2018 trips include NJIT, Swag Academy, Newark Museum, Newark Firehouse, and Chuck-E-Cheese.
2017 In Review
We are pleased to say 2017 was a successful year for the L.I.F.T As We Climb organization. We started off the year with a 12 week “Bootcamp to Success” male mentoring program. During this initiative we were able to teach life skills and adversity training to young men ages 8 -14. Our summer was spent providing children in the greater Newark area with enriching educational and recreational activities through our annual LIFT As We Climb Summer Camp. We closed out the year supplying toys, clothing and a warm meal to over 200 families on Christmas Day. None of this would have been possible with- out all the donors, volunteers, and parents for supporting our organization.
Our Inaugural LIFT Your Glasses Awards was a night to remember. We highlighted community leaders and organizations such as Wydeyah Hay, Tyree Barnes, Them Cloud Kids, and Tyrone Daye. Chike Uzoka graced us with a dynamic keynote address. There was no shortage on entertainment with Chelsea Divine and Steven Strickland serving as our host and performances from Sue and Tahj. We enjoyed food from Vital Dining and Spills on Wheels kept our glasses full.
In addition to the programs listed above, with your generosity and backing, we were able to execute the following initiatives:
The Brother Mentoring Program at Rise Academy
Power Hour Physical Fitness Class
2nd Annual Thanksgiving Weekend Charity Flag Tournament
